Alyssa has a wide range of experience in both criminal law and civil litigation, with a focus on criminal and insurance defence.
In her criminal and quasi-criminal defence practice, Alyssa has defended clients from Criminal Code of Canada charges such as assault and sexual assault, sexual exploitation, robbery, kidnapping, forcible confinement, impaired driving, mischief, fraud, firearms offences and other charges, including offences under the Highway Traffic Act. In her civil litigation practice, Alyssa has represented clients on subrogated claims, and on personal injury, property damage, professional liability and coverage actions.
Alyssa is frequently before the Ontario Court of Justice and Superior Court of Justice, and has appeared before all levels of court in Ontario, including appearing before the Divisional Court and the Ontario Court of Appeal.
Alyssa graduated from Osgoode Hall Law School in 2013, and was called to the bar in 2014. While she was in Toronto, Alyssa summered, articled and practiced law as an associate at a prominent litigation firm in the downtown area. Prior to her life in law, Alyssa was a Dean’s Scholar at Laurentian University, and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts with Honours in both Political Science and Economics, in 2010.
Alyssa joined Miller Maki LLP as an associate lawyer in 2018.
